1. IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education):

  • Lev­el: Sec­ondary edu­ca­tion (equiv­a­lent to Grade 9 and 10 or years 10 and 11 in the UK sys­tem).
  • Focus: Broad range of sub­jects, foun­da­tion­al knowl­edge, and skills.
  • Age Group: 14–16 years.
  • Recog­ni­tion: Wide­ly rec­og­nized inter­na­tion­al­ly.
  • Pur­pose: Pre­pares stu­dents for high­er edu­ca­tion lev­els (like A‑levels or oth­er equiv­a­lent qual­i­fi­ca­tions).

 

2. O‑level (Ordinary Level):

  • Lev­el: Sec­ondary edu­ca­tion (sim­i­lar to IGCSE and Grade 10).
  • Focus: Core aca­d­e­m­ic knowl­edge in a vari­ety of sub­jects.
  • Age Group: 14–16 years.
  • Recog­ni­tion: Sim­i­lar to IGCSE but pri­mar­i­ly rec­og­nized in Com­mon­wealth coun­tries.
  • Pur­pose: Used as a foun­da­tion for high­er qual­i­fi­ca­tions, like A‑levels or equiv­a­lents.
  • Key Dif­fer­ence from IGCSE: IGCSE is con­sid­ered slight­ly more mod­ern and flex­i­ble, offer­ing course­work in addi­tion to exams.

3. AS Level (Advanced Subsidiary Level):

  • Lev­el: First half of A‑levels (typ­i­cal­ly equiv­a­lent to Grade 11).
  • Focus: In-depth study of few­er sub­jects than IGCSE/O‑level.
  • Age Group: 16–17 years.
  • Recog­ni­tion: Counts as a stand­alone qual­i­fi­ca­tion or part of the full A‑level course.
  • Pur­pose: Pre­pares stu­dents for A‑levels and is some­times used for uni­ver­si­ty appli­ca­tions in some coun­tries.
